Reading through A Pennine Journey lately (more to come) but had to share this quote about anticipation, with which I completely agree:
The longed for event, when it finally arrives, may be cruelly disappointing, but if the foretaste was sweet we shall at least have gained something. It is better far to rise above the Earth now and again and come crashing down than never to leave it. Half the fun in life is in counting your chickens while they are yet embryos.
Half the fun (more than half?) is in the the deep-down tension of expectation.
