Collaborative mapping
A project called OpenFreeMap survived 100,000 requests per second after another project called Wplace started triggering billions of requests. OpenFreeMap is hosted map tiles that can be used for free; I think the underlying tiles are just OpenStreetMap. Wplace is basically r/place but using a world map as a canvas. So everyone wants to draw over their house or their neighbourhood.

The blog post also led me to Neal Agarwal’s Internet Roadtrip, a collaborative project in the style of Twitch Plays Pokemon except for that folks vote on where next to go by driving around Google Street View.
Simple ideas, fun to watch evolve as script kiddies basically take over an absolutely minuscule corner of the internet.
