Gettin handy

We've started the year on a good foot by tackling a bunch of longstanding projects that accumulated like kipple in the unattended corners of our todo lists. Small stuff that doesn't take much time at all, but takes significant energy to like get up and actually do—things like:

• installing new ceiling lights upstairs, and puzzling out how all the different configurations and colors of wires contribute to a properly functioning electrical ring;
• replacing the bonnet on the Volvo, which got backed into by an overzealous dump truck operator at a roundabout;
• fixing a drooping showerhead mount (turns out it was just a loose screw);
• putting up a motion-activated floodlight in the backyard, to light Ghyll's way in the perpetual darkness of a northern England January; or
• replacing the damaged instrument panel on the motorbike.

This last has vexed me a little bit: it turns out there are a lot of wires that go into the back of an instrument cluster, and I'm thinking that I need a bit of YouTube tutelage and a lot of masking tape to label wires before I can attack the cluster with confidence.

Also: would you look at this terrific crockery set from 1976 that we picked up at auction for £20? Sam's grandma had had the tea & coffee jars in her attic, so when the rest of the set came up we knew we had to have it. I don't think it's anything objectively special, but it sure is nice to look at.
